We adhere to international rules, whale watching and protect the whales while whale watching:

• Do not too close to the whales (a good distance for shooting is a safe distance for the whales).
• Do not cross the path of the whales.
• Reduce boat speed to minimize the noise when we approach whales.
• Turn off the engine if the whales and dolphins approaching our boat.
• Passengers not allowed diving under the water to photograph whales, swim with them and touch them.
• Not throwing trash into the ocean.

Our boat

For whale watching, we use new and comfortable boat for 40 passengers. You can choose your seat on the lower deck or the upper observation deck. The boat and all the passengers are insured.

The season of whales and dolphins in Mirissa

Whale watching season begins in November and ends in April. The ocean is warm and calm during these months. In the off-season from May to October, you can also see whales, but the ocean can be a storm and will not be out in the ocean.

The beginning and duration of the tour

Our vessel departs from the Mirissa Harbor at 7:00 o’clock in the morning. You have to be at the port at 6:30-6:45 am.

Tour length is 3-5 hours (depending on the occurrence of whales and wish of our passengers). After lunch in the ocean is usually not easy for whale watching.

Swimming with whales and dolphins not allowed.

Price list

Adults, children over 5 years old – $ 40 (RS 6 000).

Children 0-5 years –Free of charge.

Fishing boat from 15.00 to sunset – $ 200.

If you do not see whales, then a free trip on another day.

What is included in the price

Go to the main gate of the port and 50 meters after the crossroads turn right (there is a record on a concrete wall).

However, whales are massive animals, but their bodies are relatively flexible and streamlined, allowing them to travel long journey and reach speeds up to 25 mph in the event of a threat. The average life expectancy of a blue whale is around 80-90 years. The tongue of the right whale can weigh like an elephant, and a heart like a car.

• Excursion season for watching whales starts in July and continues until the end of April/beginning of May. Optional excursions are organized where the ocean and the weather are fine.
• The boat departs from Mirissa Harbor at 6.30 am. The ticket office opens at 6.00 am.
• Available in 2-harusnya boat for 50 people and a boat for 10 people. The boards are equipped with GPS navigation, life jackets, and toilet.
• You will see blue whales, bride whales, and several other species of whales, dolphins, flying fish and other marine life as well.
• The duration of the trip, usually takes 3-5 hours, but if will be difficult to find the whales, we will stay a little more up to about 7 hours.
• Comfortable and safe boat will bring you to the natural habitat of the whales, will hold a full briefing and tell about the behavior of whales.
• The price includes Breakfast: omelet, sandwiches, fried sausages, pancakes and pineapples; tea/coffee/bottle of coke and a bottle of drinking water. The fruits will served in the return trip.
• If you are seasick, recommended to take pills for seasickness one hour prior to the departure of the boat.
• Not allowed: throw food and waste in the sea. There is a trashcan on the boat.

Seasons and weather

The most favorable and dry season for a holiday in Weligama, and around the South West coast is between November to April. Air temperature, as at any other time of the year, not below +30°C, the waves of the ocean calmer, and the water warms up to 28°C. From May to October in the South of the island come the monsoon winds, that add short rains flowing mostly in the evening and night.

How to get

The distance from Colombo to Weligama is about 140 km, from Galle is approximately 30 km. To get on Weligama from the airport easy by car, check transfer services. Also can be reached by train (the schedule of study here) or by bus with transfers in Colombo and Galle. The road from Galle to Weligama is very picturesque, passes right along the coast, on the one hand the Indian Ocean, on the other hilly jungle.

What to do

The infrastructure of a beach resort developed enough for unbiased traveler. Cafes, restaurants, supermarkets and small shops, water sports and souvenir store, you will find everything here.

Weligama is a fishing village with its fishing harbor and ships. Fish and seafood sold directly on the beach, and you can go fishing and get unforgettable experience.

The nearby iconic landmarks no here. Vacationers entertained themselves with trips to watch whales, dolphins, sperm whales or the snake farm. To visit more interesting sights you need to go away, for example, in the West on Galle or Yala Park to the East. In the depths of the island interesting to visit a Sinharaja Forest Reserve.
